ੴ
Eleven o’clock, at the Gurdwara
Sunday the fifteenth of November
Married with the four laavan before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji; then karah parshad.
Coming in
Please put your phone on silent, and wash your hands before you go into the hall. Many people bow before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the scripture we honour as our living Guru, as they come in; join them if you wish, or go straight to a place. Sit where others show you, as in many Gurdwaras men sit on one side and women on the other, with your feet tucked in and never pointing towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Kirtan
Musicians with harmonium and tabla sing hymns from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Ardaas
A prayer, said by one person for everyone, before we marry and again at the end. When the room stands, stand too; there is nothing you need to say.
The laavan
First the granthi, who leads the ceremony, speaks to us about married life. Then the heart of the Anand Karaj: four verses, each read and then sung while we make one slow round, Ishmeet holding the palla, the end of Talwinder’s scarf. Please stay seated. After the fourth, we are married, and nobody claps, even then.
Karah parshad
A warm sweet of wheat flour, ghee and sugar, blessed at the end of the ardaas and given to everyone alike. Take it in both hands, cupped, and eat it; if you would like only a little, say so as it is served.
If you are ever unsure, do as the people around you do.
Sanskruti Hall

Eight o’clock, in the Sanskruti Hall
